ISSP Programme Details

The Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) International Summer Student Programme is an opportunity for science students in Germany and abroad (especially those studying physics, chemistry and other related disciplines). The aim of the program is to provide students with both practical experience and a deeper understanding of research. This will be achieved through the following:

1. Students will work or collaborate with HZB research teams and scientists to conduct research in the HZB laboratories or experimental areas.
2. Lectures and on-site visits will be held to introduce students to various research themes, which will further improve their understanding of the research and the objectives of the program.
3. Students will engage in research and present their findings at the end of the program, through methods such as a short lecture or scientific poster presentation.

Language
Since the programme will have participants from across the world, and people from different tribes and languages, the English language will be used as the general form of communication during the programme. All events, scientific supervision, as well as supporting documents, will be in English.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be undergraduate students in material science, physics, structural biology, chemistry, mathematics, engineering, life or environmental sciences, or any other related subject.
  • Applicants must have completed a minimum of two years of full-time study in their major discipline at the university level.
  • The ability to communicate fluently in English or German would be an advantage. Applicants can only be considered if they attach reference letters to their applications.
